This programme is designed for both lawyers and non-lawyers, and is ideal for:

• quality control managers

The LLM in Environmental Law is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2016 and it was the first in what has proved to be a very successful suite of distance learning Masters programmes. Over the years, it has recruited a large number of talented people from a range of professional backgrounds, all of whom share a common interest in environmental law. The course has been very popular with people who work for regulatory bodies, whether in legal departments or as field or enforcement officers, environmental consultants, planners, solicitors, barristers, those who work in regulated industries, such as waste or water and academics. Often, students have decided to study the course to obtain a qualification which confirms the breadth and depth of their existing practical knowledge, and to have the opportunity to look behind the law in order to address the underlying policy issues and how the law ought to be reformed. The feedback which we receive about the LLM is consistently very good and students regard the course as having been a worthwhile investment. Often it has proved to be the springboard for promotion, or the change of career direction which they desired. The wide range of optional modules available is a feature of the programme which also elicits very positive feedback.

The LLM Environmental Law and Practice Teaching Team,

Students can undertake to do the course following the Accelerated Route and complete their LLM in 15 months. Students will enrol in September 2017 along with the other students on the programme and study the Core Module until the end of December 2017. Accelerated Route students will then undertake to study all of their modules and write their dissertation within the remaining 12 months (January to
December 2018).

This is a very intensive but rewarding route and successful students will graduate with their LLM at the end of 15 months. Accelerated Route students are supported through the allocation of a special director of studies who will provide additional support and advice during their studies.

The course commences with an optional induction weekend on 15th, 16th and 17th September 2017 at Leicester De Montfort Law School. After that there are four further optional one-day study days (on Saturdays) per year of study. The Induction Weekend is intended to assist students in their choice of option modules, allow meetings with course tutors and fellow students and provide useful introductory sessions especially for those students who do not have a degree in law or some other relevant legal qualification. Other study days concentrate on tutorial work in the Core Module and chosen subjects and students have the opportunity to listen to guest speakers, discuss the course and be involved in specialist debate and analysis on specific areas of relevant law.

I undertook this course of study whilst still working full-time and undergoing a massive restructure at work. I have done well in this new structure and I am sure that the LLM qualification has helped me to achieve this.
